My artistic career began as a classical dancer and I was fortunate to spend time with the late Robert Joffrey. The years in class practicing before the unforgiving studio mirror gave me innate knowledge of the ebb and flow of the human form. My passion for capturing movement pays homage to my time as a performer.
As in all classical art forms, I attempt to steady myself on the solid shoulders of every artist who walked before me, regardless of style or medium. I have been strongly influenced by the work and thoughts of Patti Smith. She recently expressed in an interview her hope that her little pictures would give someone a "moment of serenity." I share that thought. Giving solace to the observer —a gift that persists in good times and in bad—is perhaps the most rewarding thing I do.
